The Australia-India Migration and Mobility Partnership Arrangement (MMPA) stands as a testament to the enduring bond between two dynamic nations. Under the MMPA, both countries have embarked on a journey to enhance collaboration across various sectors, including education, technology, trade, and innovation.
Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES)
One of the key initiatives under the MMPA is the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES) program. The Australian Government will implement the new Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES) program for Indian nationals starting from November 1, 2024. This pioneering program provides a platform for Indian graduates and early career professionals to live and work in Australia, contributing their skills and expertise to the Australian workforce.
- Target Group: 3,000 Indian graduates and early career professionals (aged 18-30) in targeted fields.
- Duration: Up to two years in Australia.
- Fees:
- Pre-application (ballot) charge: $25
- Application charge: $365
- Both charges will be indexed to the consumer price index.
Extended Validity for Business Visitor Visa
Furthermore, as part of the MMPA, the Australian Government has extended the validity of the Visitor visa (subclass 600) Business Visitor stream for Indian nationals from three years to five years. This extension aims to facilitate increased business exchanges and promote economic cooperation between Australia and India.
Financial Implications
This measure is estimated to increase receipts by $435.0 million and increase payments by $70.9 million over five years from 2023–24.
