Skill Stream:

If you already hold a Skilled-Recognised Graduate Visa (subclass 476), it will remain valid until the expiry date provided when your visa was granted.

Family Stream:

The family stream remains at 52,500 places, facilitating the reunification of Australian citizens and permanent residents with their families, contributing to social cohesion.

Consultation Process:

The planning levels and policy settings were informed by consultations with state and territory governments, academia, industry, unions, and community organizations. Considerations included public submissions, economic forecasts, and international research.

State and Territory Nomination Allocations:

The Migration Program allows states and territories in Australia to nominate eligible applicants for certain visa categories. These categories include:

  1. Skilled – Nominated (subclass 190): This is a permanent visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. It allows visa holders to live and work in Australia as permanent residents.
  2. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491): This is a provisional visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government or sponsored by an eligible family member living in a designated regional area. It allows visa holders to live, work, and study in designated regional areas of Australia for five years and provides a pathway to permanent residency.

Each state and territory in Australia have its own specific criteria for assessing and nominating eligible applicants for these visas. This means that the requirements and eligibility can vary depending on the jurisdiction.

Net Overseas Migration:

The permanent Migration Program is a component of net overseas migration (NOM), which also includes temporary migration, citizens, New Zealanders, and Humanitarian migrants. Most visas are granted to onshore migrants, minimizing immediate impacts on housing and infrastructure.

Multi-Year Planning Model:

From 2025-26, the program will adopt a multi-year planning model, extending the planning horizon to four years, aligning migration planning with infrastructure, housing, and services planning.
