What You must know about Health & Character Examinations for Australian Visa

Health Requirement

 All the visa applicants need to go through a health check-up from a approved doctors and authority and the medical examination might differ as per the visa applications and all the medical report are sent directly to the Immigration office.

 Approved Doctors

 All medical examinations and chest x-rays for Australian visas must be undertaken with an approved Panel Doctor. All Panel Doctors have the forms for Australian visa medical tests available at their clinics. The panel doctor will charge you directly for the examination and will send the reports directly to this office.

Medical Examinations Before Lodging a Visa Application

 For migration, partner, visitor, and business visas, you should wait to undergo medical examinations until after you have applied for your visa and we have provided you with an individual ID number to provide to the Panel Doctor. The fees that Panel Doctors charge are not refundable. If you choose to undergo a medical examination without us referring you to, you do so at your own risk.

Medical results have a limited validity. Normally, validity is twelve months from the date of clearance. However, depending on the health of the applicant, the validity may sometimes be shorter.

 Character Requirement

 From the DIBP website you will not pass the character requirement if:

you have a substantial criminal record, meaning you have been sentenced to 12 months or more in prison, or multiple sentences that add up to more than 12 months in prison. A suspended sentence is considered a prison sentence.

Generally you are required to provide police clearance certificates for each country which you have lived in for 12 months or more over the last 10 years, since you were aged 16 or over.

As part of the character requirements you may be asked to complete and submit a Form 80 – Personal for character assessment.

There are different character requirements depending on whether you are applying for an Australian visa or citizenship.

Australia – Australian Federal Police (AFP)

You need to use code 33 at question 1 of the form. No fingerprints are required for the application.
