In response to this growing demand, the Australian Computer Society (ACS) has expanded its assessment scope to align with updates from the Department of Home Affairs’ Skills in Demand visa and Core Skills Occupations List (CSOL).
Key Updates on New Occupations
ACS has broadened its assessable occupations from 25 to 35 ANZSCO codes, with 10 new roles added to address the evolving fields of cyber security and data analysis. The new occupations include:

- 224115 Data Scientist
- 261315 Cyber Security Engineer
- 261316 DevOps Engineer
- 261317 Penetration Tester
- 262114 Cyber Governance Risk and Compliance Specialist
- 262115 Cyber Security Advice and Assessment Specialist
- 262116 Cyber Security Analyst
- 262117 Cyber Security Architect
- 262118 Cyber Security Operations Coordinator
This update marks ACS’s most significant expansion in over a decade, aimed at supporting Australia’s technological advancements and critical skills needs.
Preparation for New Pathways
To accommodate these changes, ACS is updating its systems to assist applicants and agents, including:
- Go-Live Date: The enhanced website and assessment portals will be available starting 15 January 2025.
- Assessment Pathways: Applicants can continue using existing pathways such as Post-Australian Studies (PAS), General Skills, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
- Optional Certifications: To improve assessments, optional vendor certifications in specialized fields like cyber security or DevOps will be considered.
