Skilled Visa Income Thresholds Set to Rise from 1 July 2025
Starting 1 July 2025, income thresholds for skilled visa programs will increase by 4.6%, aligning with the annual update to the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE). This annual adjustment supports the Australian Government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the skilled migration system remains fair, competitive, and in line with local wage growth.
The update is part of the commitments outlined in the Migration Strategy and is in response to recommendations from the Migration Review.

What’s Changing?
From 1 July 2025, the following threshold changes will apply:
Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) will increase from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515
Relevant for: Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482 – Core Skills stream) and Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186)
Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) will increase from AUD 135,000 to AUD 141,210
Relevant for: Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482 – Specialist Skills stream)
Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) will rise from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515
Relevant for: Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (subclass 187)
Note: This is subject to legislative approval.
All new nomination applications lodged on or after 1 July 2025 will need to meet either the updated income threshold or the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR) — whichever is higher.
What About Existing Visa Holders?
These changes will not affect current visa holders or any nomination applications submitted before 1 July 2025.
Why the Change Matters
Indexing income thresholds ensures skilled migrants are paid in line with Australian wage trends and helps safeguard against the undercutting of local workers. By keeping these thresholds updated annually, Australia continues to protect the integrity of its skilled migration program while attracting qualified talent.
