The Australian Government had revealed planning level for the 2023-24 permanent Migration Program at 190,000 places.

The 2023-24 Permanent Migration Program, as devised by the government, aims to tackle ongoing and emerging shortages of skills while also attracting individuals possessing unique expertise that may be hard to come by or cultivate within Australia.

This program’s primary objectives are to enhance the nation’s resilience, bolster productivity, and provide support to the Australian economy as it moves towards achieving net-zero emissions.

The government plans to maintain its endeavors in visa management by extending funding for 500 visa processing officers, allocating an extra $48.1 million over the span of 12 months.

Moreover, for the fiscal year 2023-24, an investment of $27.8 million across a two-year period has been allocated to enhance the current visa Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems.

This improvement initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of visa service delivery, thereby enhancing Australia’s appeal on the international stage as a sought-after destination for talent, students, and tourists. Improve visa service delivery efficiency and increase Australia’s attractiveness in the global race for talent, students and tourists.

State and Territory nominated visa categories – Nomination Allocations

The allocations for the State and Territory nominated programs for the 2023-24 period have been unveiled. These allocations demonstrate a decrease compared to the previous program year. Notably, there is no allocation made for the business skills stream.

This reduction in allocations signifies that securing state sponsorship for a Subclass 190 or 491 visa will become significantly more competitive.

According to 2023-2024 Migration Program, nomination allocations are made available to States and Territories for the categories:

State and Territory Nominations

Nomination allocations are the number of new primary applicants each state or territory can nominate in a program year. New applications are added to the existing on-hand caseload in these visa categories.

Nomination allocations do not reflect the total number of visa applicants in these categories and do not limit the number of visas able to be granted in these visa categories.

The Department processes existing on-hand applications and new applications nominated by a state or territory in line with the permanent Migration Program planning levels and skilled visa processing priorities.

The states and territories are in the process of finalizing their occupation lists and criteria, and it is anticipated that this information will be made available in the near future.
