International students can bring their eligible family members to Australia. As a primary applicant you must meet student visa criteria. You must include all your family members while initially applying for a student visa even if they are not accompanying you.
If you are already married at the time of applying for Australian student visa, you can bring your spouse with you whereas, as a primary applicant you must meet certain visa criteria. Along with your spouse you can also include your children/immediate family members in your student visa application whilst you need to demonstrate that you have access to enough funds to support you and your family members while your stay in Australia.
- As a dependent spouse can work same number of hours per week as the primary applicant which is 40 hours per fortnight.
- Spouse of student studying master’s degree or research degree can work full time.
Family members:
Family members who are accompanying the students also has the permission to work subjected to visa conditions.
- Family members accompanying Student must not start to work until the primary visa holder has commenced the course of study in Australia.
- Family members can always work up to 40 hours per fortnight unless the primary student visa holder course of study is commenced.
- If the primary visa holder is on a student visa (subclass 500), in this case there is no limit on the number of hours a family member can work.
