The Australian Government declared increase in migration planning levels!
The Albanese Labor Government led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of the Australian Labor Party declared on 02 September 2022 that there will be an increase in the number of permanent migration visas that are available in 2022-23. Earlier this number was 160,000, now increased to 195,000 places, a booming increase of 35,000 places, a rare occurrence in the Australian Migration system. Alongside, there is an additional allocation of AUD $36.1 million to combat the delays in visa processing by the DHA.
The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, Andrew Giles, commented that the Government is committed to a better functioning immigration system that caters to both businesses and individuals through this new investment in visa processing.
According to the media release on 02 September 2022, the following changes are implemented by the Albanese Government effective immediately:
- 142,400 places will be allocated to the Skill stream (increased by 32,500 places);
- 52,500 places will be allocated to the Family stream (increased by 2,500 places); and
- 100 places will be available for the Special Eligibility stream (no change).
Earlier these numbers were as follows:
- 109,900 places for Skill stream;
- 50,000 places for Family stream; and
- 100 places for Special Eligibility stream.
Quoting the words of our Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security, Clare O’Neil, “Our immigration system can be a powerful promoter of Australia’s open, free, prosperous, democratic society around the world, so let’s start giving that system the love and care that it needs.”
Overall, this is a remarkable step taken by the government that brings good news to both migrants and businesses in Australia.
