What is the GS Requirement?

The GS requirement is a pivotal step in the student visa application process. Unlike the previous 300-word statement, the GS requirement now entails a series of targeted questions. These questions provide visa decision makers with comprehensive insights into applicants’ backgrounds and motivations for studying in Australia, offering contextual understanding alongside documentary evidence.

Key GS Questions Include

Changes to the Student Visa Declaration

The Student visa declaration has also undergone revisions. Applicants must now confirm their understanding of genuine student obligations, commitment to comply with visa conditions, and acknowledgment of limited post-study migration pathways.

Implementation Timeline

The GS requirement will apply to Student visa applications lodged on or after March 23, 2024. Applications lodged prior to this date will continue to be assessed based on the previous GTE requirement.

Reasons for Change

The introduction of the GS requirement aims to enhance transparency in visa assessment processes, eliminate ambiguity regarding migration intentions, and aid the Department of Home Affairs in identifying non-genuine applicants. The move is expected to bolster Australia’s international education sector by fostering a sustainable environment beneficial to genuine students, quality education providers, and employers seeking talented graduates.

Exclusion of Student Guardian Visa Applicants

It’s important to note that the GS requirement does not apply to applicants for the Student Guardian visa, who will continue to be assessed against the GTE requirement.
